electrical tape

by Lance "Big A" Anttila
(Fort Riley, KS)

my son and I were passing through lower michigan on our way to laconia back a few years ago, and dont you know it, the classic break down, middle of no where, sunday afternoon, days before good cell coverage, and BROKEN LINKAGE. the little clip that holds your linkage to the shift mech had suddenly become lost, everytime I shifted the arm fell down. well we pulled over since we wernt going to get very far in 1st gear, and after looking at this we wrapped electrical tape to keep the pieces together. it turned out that the tape was flexible enough to allow for shifting, and it proved to be weather and engine heat resistant. i left that same piece of tape on for the next 5000 miles, until while i was deployed to Iraq, my wife had it fixed as a maintnence suprise when i got home. so to this day i carry a roll of electrical tape.

I always have an extra quart of oil on trips and wrap electrical tape along the top of the bottle around the cap several times. Not only does it keep it from leaking, there is always plenty of electrical tape for aything I may need it for.
