Dressing your bike up with motorcycle chrome does wonders for your bike.

Being seen by the use of motorcycle chrome is a bonus to all the shine it creates. Okay so that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it. Installing "safety chrome" has been the excuse we've all used to go to the store or online to buy some nice chrome accents for our bikes.

Yes there is some truth to that. The next time you are riding behind someone at night who has helmet hangers dangling from their trunk, notice how many times your headlights flash off them.

Okay guys, so now that we have all our excuses set, lets look at some of the chrome items on the market. First there are two way to get your "chrome look". One is to get high end chromed metal. These are parts that have gone through a chroming process and are made from base metals. You can have your OEM parts chromed or purchase aftermarket parts that are chromed already.

Having your parts chromed may be less expensive in the long run so check with a local chrome finisher in your area and compare prices. I would suggest doing all your chroming at once, you'll get a better price per piece that way.

The other way of "chroming" your bike is with plastic aftermarket "chrome" pieces. These are of course lighter, easy to install and in some cases more convenient. Getting a chromed plastic cover for the exposed frame of the bike is much easier than breaking down the bike and having the frame dipped.

Some of these pieces will install with double face tape. If so make sure to consider it's location. Engine trim can get hot and the wrong mounting tape may fail when overheated. Last thing you want to do is to loose a fifty dollar piece of trim as you ride down the road. Trust me I know.

Other trim you can use is to go to the local automotive store and pick up rolls of door trim of fender trim. You can use this on the edges of your fenders, saddlebags or as small bumper guards on your bags etc. The sky's the limit really. Have fun with it and show off your ride.
