When motorcycle touring 2up there are some additional considerations to take into account for safety and enjoyment of your ride.Motorcycle touring 2up (riding with a passenger) requires a little extra knowledge and skill when out on the road. First, the obvious things are the difference in weight and the movements that the co-rider makes can affect the way a bike handles and responds. With the added weight of a passenger you'll need to remember stopping distances will change and depending on the size engine, your acceleration may be affected as well. Make sure that you compensate for that especially while riding in traffic and during inclement weather. While riding, the co-rider also needs to be aware that their movement can affect how the bike handles. This is more noticeable while turning or leaning the bike. Slower speeds magnify all of this so be very careful at intersections and in parking lots. An easy way to compensate for all this is basic communication. An intercom system will help make communication easier so that both the rider and co-rider can work together while on the road. The co-rider can alert the rider when they need to move or shift their weight, the rider can warn the co-rider of road conditions or the need to swerve etc. One of the best things a co-rider can do to understand the bike and how they affect it's handling is to take a riding course. I know in Delaware it costs $50.00 to take the 2 day class and riding course offered by the state (Basic MSF Course) to get an endorsement on your drivers license. There is no better way to understand the bike than to learn how to ride one. If your co-rider is not up for that, many organizations offer co-rider courses to show the co-rider how to ride on the bike and understand what the rider goes through. Judy will go as far as to help out with traffic when we're merging onto a highway or making turns that require me to be watching more ways than one. The extra pair of eyes really helps out. After riding for so long together, it has become second nature for us and we now both work well on the bike together. Motorcycle touring 2up is a great pleasure that allows you to enjoy the ride together and make for a more memorable trip. So find someone and enjoy the trip!
