So what about us qualifies us to talk about motorcycle touring?
Well we figured we would let you know a bit about us and the motorcycle touring
we've done so that you can make that call. Both Judy and I
started out as any self respecting boomer of our day did, with mini bikes. The passion grew from there.
We met in high school and rode together on a Suzuki TS250. It was a great bike to learn on. After high
school, I spent time in the Air Force where I honed a lot of my mechanical skills on aircraft. I upgraded
to a Yamaha 650 Maxim and learned a bit about long rides. We both loved the bike but with my commitments
to the service, didn't have much time to ride.
After
the service and kids came our time to play and in 2001 we bought a Honda Gold
Wing out of the box to start working on our dream, a month long tour of the four
corners of the US. We're still working on that and filling in a lot of states in
between. We have spent the past seven years enjoying touring and making new
friends along the way. We've dedicated this website to pass on our experiences
to make things easier for those who want to travel and view the countryside
where ever that may be.
For the past three years Judy and I have been involved as officers in the Gold Wing Road Riders association.
We joined the organization after riding a few years on our own. It's one of the best things we could have
done. We have learned so much in a short time and have gone on trips we never would have if riding on our
own. It's great to be able to soak up knowledge from all the other riders in our chapter. A lot of war
stories but some great info and tips as well.
Since buying our wing, we have put over 11,000 miles a year on it. It's taken us all over the US and we've
gotten a lot of comments on the bike and the fact that we can get out. Most people that don't ride, I think
have a curiosity about it. And when you show up on a large touring bike with some extra creature comforts,
they ask about us and the trips we've been on, and then you can just see it in their eyes, they all of the
sudden wish that they can do what we've been doing.
Our passion and thrill of riding has consumed us immensely and we will never give it up. If we get to the point where age and safety comes into play we'll be the first to line
up for all the modifications so that we can keep on touring. I guess we have become addicted to the
thrill of
riding. You know, all those things you can't put into words, those feelings that those who don't ride will
never know unless they get on a bike.
So to all those riding, we hope to run into you someday and to those who don't ride, read through our pages
here and you may see the joy and awe that motorcycling brings and one day take the plunge. You'll never regret it.
