If you don't have roadside assistance for your bike, you may want to consider it.

Having roadside assistance for your motorcycle will give you that extra added security while touring. It's really nothing more than insurance in a way. You pay in a certain amount each month or year and you receive service if and when you need it. If you don't use it during that time period, that money is gone and you just sign up for the next period. Is is worth it? Get stuck somewhere sometime and then ask that question.

In my opinion it's more than worth it to have some sort of assistance package. Just to get a pickup or trailer out to load up your bike and give you a ride to a service station or dealership is a great advantage, but when you think of the alternative then you'll see. If you were out in a car, you at least have shelter. On a bike, it's you against Mother Nature and being stranded with a storm or nightfall coming is something that's not fun.

Check with your insurance company. Some insurance policies are now offering packages but beware, they may not know much about motorcycles. Look for companies that cater to motorcycles. They are more apt to have the right equipment to load up and secure your bike without damaging it. You may find that some policies will only offer limited mileage. In other words, they'll tow you up to 50 miles. Then it may be worth while to see if your motorcycle insurance has a package as well. You may be able to supplement one with the other.

Overall, you would be much better off by having a roadside assistance package. When I look at all the that can go wrong when I ride, I look at it as another good tool to have in my tool pouch.
